Serat Salokatama

The Serat Salokatama manuscript was written by Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Ariya Mangku Nagara IV in 1799 Java or 1870 AD. Serat Salokatama was written in the form of mijil songs, a total of 31, had been published by Nurhipkolep Jakarta in 1953 with Javanese characters.

Saloka means parable or story while tama means main or good. Salokatama means the main or good parable or story. This is revealed in the last stanza of the song which reads: Itij panawunging ruwiyadi which means: the description of a good story has been completed.

Salokatama Serat Contents

The complete essence of the contents of Serat Salokatama is as follows.

What the author sees is something that is out of place and always disturbs his mind. Generally, people who have the will often do not introspect, act out of control and eventually get "nistha". Young people like to stand out so that others fear and respect.

Serat Salokatama

They do not know that many of his actions are ridiculed, making other people unhappy and his enemies being grateful for it. Seems like a brave man, his behavior is artificial, so that he looks like a prankster or a criminal. When they have stopped doing that, people still don't believe that they are good people.

If it is said that people live twice, no one is afraid of death and no one is disappointed. But because they only live once, many are disappointed in their lives, so sometimes they want to commit suicide. But suicide is actually more miserable, the grave should not be mixed with the ancestors and the crowd.

People who kill people have very big sins, but the sins of people who commit suicide are still greater, so "nistha" exceeds the death of a monkey or monkey.

There is no other way to cleanse sins except to apologize to all who have offended their hearts. If older and taller be filial. If younger but taller, with respectful greetings and smooth language. Everything is an attempt to get rid of anger. If you're shy about being direct, write a nice letter. Then apologize and repent to God. Also do not forget to respect the ancestors so as not to get sin from him.

Indeed, people who do good are hard, in contrast to people who will do bad things are always easier.

Generally, people in this world, both high and low in dignity, do not like to give in, even though it doesn't mean they actually lose. And again in general, if people are praised and supported their opinion will be happy and far from hurt.

Generally, people who do not know about good manners, if there is something that is told that is bad first, the reason is that it doesn't come to mind.

If we want to get glory so that it can be done, we must dare to be humble, ask for help and pray for blessing.

If one day our goals fail, don't be surprised and then blame yourself profusely. Ask God for guidance, feel what we lack. Because these humans are all lovers of God, if you have a goal, ask God, it will be granted. If it doesn't work, maybe it's not time yet.

It is like a young durian when it is climbed, it is difficult to pick it, and when it is picked, it cannot be eaten, even though the effort is desperately needed. It's different if little by little, patiently waiting, when it's time it will fall on its own, easy to pick and delicious to eat.

Likewise, people seek glory. If they are too forced sometimes until they run out of sense, all roads are taken and do not hesitate to use bad methods, for example by using magic. If successful, generally not good, not durable and not sustainable. This is the equivalent of picking the young durian earlier.

It is different with people who try in a good way. At night always ask God. Everyday his behavior is good, diligent, honest, humble, sweet talk, obedient to superiors, love for others. Generally, those who carry out like that, it is appropriate if what is aspired to succeed. It is a real gift from God. His life is safe and not troubled and sometimes it can be passed down to children and grandchildren.

It's like picking a ripe durian on a tree, if you have a dream, you have to put in the effort, it's not enough just to think about it. God will not answer those who do not try.
