Dewi Sumbadra

Wayang is one of the forms of Indonesian culture that developed in Java. Every Javanese must be familiar with performances, or wayang stories. Moreover, the narratives about the Mahabharata and Ramayana puppets are quite popular.

Dewi Sumbadra in Javanese wayang is one of the main characters in the epic Mahabharata. She is the daughter of Prabu Basudewa (King of the Kingdom of Surasena), as well as the half-sister of Krishna.

Dewi Sumbadra

Subhadra (Dewi Sembadra in Javanese) is the incarnation of Dewi Sri. She was the first wife of Arjuna (the third son of Pandu), as well as the mother of Abhimanyu.

In Javanese wayang culture, Sembadra is known as a princess who is elegant, gentle, calm, loyal and obedient to her husband. She is the ideal figure of a Javanese priyayi daughter.

Subhadra, who as a child named Rara Ireng had two older brothers, namely Kakrasana who later became king of Mandura with the title Prabu Baladewa and Narayana who later became king in Dwarawati with the title Prabu Sri Batara Kresna.

As an adult, Rara Ireng named Dewi Wara Sumbadra, was considered a nation of Bidadari, until there was a phrase in Javanese: sekethi lacking mustard greens, ten laksa less than one about the number of angels in Heaven and Sembadra completed this deficiency as the tenth angel.

When she was a child, Rara Ireng had a bad face, black skin, sparse and reddish hair. After growing up, her face gradually became beautiful. Even if he gets together with princesses who are famous for their beauty, Rara Ireng will be the most beautiful among them

Dewi Wara Sumbadra had changed forms into a man who was really powerful, but in the end was also defeated by Arjuna.

When the Madura kingdom was damaged by Kangsa's actions, Wara Sembadra hid in the village of Widarakandang. Because Kangsa found out, Rara Ireng fled and left the country of Mandura, but was overtaken by a giant army. Fortunately, Wara Sembadra still managed to save himself.

Rara Ireng bears a bun, has waderan edits, has a beard and has a berpontoh, but when he grows up he only bears hair and does not have bracelets and other decorations.

It is said that when Raden Burisrawa met Sembadra for the first time at Raden Kakrasana's wedding, Raden Burisrawa was immediately captivated and wanted to make her his wife.

Raden Burisrawa vowed never to marry if not with Wara Sembadra. However, reality said otherwise. Dewi Wara Sembadra never loved Raden Burisrawa at all. He even swore that it would be better if he died if he had to marry Raden Burisrawa.

In the play Sumbadra Larung, at midnight Sumbadra goes to take a bath, on the way he is blocked by Burisrawa who because he is really in love comes close to Sumbadra, but Sumbadra does not want to be approached.

Which made Raden Burisrawa irritated and angry. Finally he pulled out the keris and scared Sembadra. But what a whore. Sembadra ran over to the kris and stabbed his chest towards the unsheathed kris. Sembadra died at that very moment. On the advice of Prabu Kresna, finally Sembadra's body was floated, washed away in a boat at Bengawan Silungangga.

Rara Ireng has sharp eyes, a sharp nose, a calm face. Rivet bun and some loose hair. Berjamang and beredit waderan. Flanged and pontoon. After becoming Wara Sumbadra, this princess no longer wanted to wear all-gold clothes and did not want to wear quality beads.

Sumbadra berwanda: 1. Lentreng, 2. Parem, and 3. Rangkung. The third Wanda was written by Sri Sultan Agung.
