Werkodara : Pandava Enforcers

Birth

Werkodara - In the mahabharata epic it is told that Pandu can not create a generation due to the curse of a person's regiment in the forest. Kunti, Pandu's wife, cried out to Bayu, the god of the wind. From Kunti's bond with Bayu, Bima was born. By the grace of Bayu, Bima became a very strong person and full of affection.

Youth

In childhood, Bima's strength was no match for his peers. This power is often used to bully his cousins, namely Korawa. Duryodana—one of korawa—hates Bima's attitude that is always ignorant. The hatred develops into an intention to kill Bima. One day when the Korawa and Pandava went sightseeing in the Ganges river area, Duryodana served food and drinks to Bima, which had previously been mixed with poison. Because Bima was not suspicious, he ate the food. The food caused Bima to faint, then his body was tied firmly by Duryodana using a spreading plant, after which it was drifted into the Ganges with a raft. When the raft carrying Bima reached the middle of the river, the snakes that lived around the river pecked Bima's body. Miraculously, the snake can turn into an antidote to the poison eaten by Bima. When he realized, Bima immediately untie the creeping plant wrapped around his body, and he killed the snakes that bit his body. Some snakes saved themselves to meet their king, Antaboga (Naga Basuki). When Antaboga heard the news that Pandu's son Bima had killed his men, he immediately greeted Bima and gave him a drink, whose bowl had the power equivalent of ten elephants. Bima drank seven bowls, so his body became very strong, equivalent to seventy elephants. Bima stayed at Naga Basuki's palace for eight days, after which he returned home.

In his teens, Bima and his brothers were educated and trained in the military by Drona. In studying weapons, Bima focused more on mastering the science of using mace, like Duryodana. They both became disciples of Baladewa, krishna's brother who was adept at using mace guns. Compared to Bima, Baladewa loved Duryodana more, and Duryodana was also loyal to Baladewa.

Events in Waranawata

When Bima and his mother and siblings vacationed in Waranawata, he and Yudistira realized that the inn, which was provided for them, had been designed to kill them and their mother. Duryodana's janitor, Purocana, had built the house in such a way that it was a candle-like material that it quickly caught fire. Bima was about to leave, but on Yudistira's advice they stayed there for several months.

One night, Dewi Kunti threw a party and a woman close to Purocana was also present at the party along with her five sons. When Purocana and the woman and her five children fell asleep because of the food served by Kunti, Bima immediately told her mother and siblings to escape by going through a tunnel that had been made before. Later, Bima began to burn down the candle house they had left behind. Because his mother and brothers were sleepy and tired, Bima brought them all at once with his mighty strength. Kunti was carried on his back, Nakula and Sadewa were on his thighs, while Yudistira and Arjuna were on his arms.

When he came out of the end of the tunnel, Bima and his brother arrived at the Ganges. There they were escorted across the river by Widura's servant, the minister of Hastinapura, who was worried about their situation. After crossing the Ganges, they passed Sidawata to Hidimbawana. On the journey, Bima carried all his brothers and their mothers through a distance of approximately seventy-two miles.

Events in Hidimbawana

In Hidimbawana, Bima meets a giant woman named Hidimbi. Hidimbi disguises herself as an ordinary woman and falls in love with Bima. Hidimba (Hidimbi's brother) is angry that Hidimbi has fallen in love with someone who is supposed to be their meal. This led to a fight between Bima and Hidimba. Bima wins the fight and kills Hidimba. Bima then married Hidimbi. A son named Gatotkaca was born from their marriage. Bima and his family stayed for several months together with Hidimbi and Gatotkaca, after which they continued their journey.

The Giant Afterlife Killer

After passing Hidimbawana, the Pandava and their mother arrived in a town called Ekacakra. There they hitchhike at the brahmin family home. One day when Bima and his mother were alone, while the other four Pandava went begging, the homeowner brahmin told them that a giant named Bakasura terrorized ekacakra city. At the request of the villagers, the giant stopped disturbing the city, but instead the entire city was required to offer good food and a human being every week. Today, brahmin families provide shelter for those who have a turn to present one of their families. Feeling indebted to the kindness of the brahmin family, Kunti said that he would give up Bima who would later kill the baka giant. At first Yudistira was sanctioned, but eventually he agreed.

On the appointed day, Bima brought a meal to Bakasura cave. There he spent the food that should have been offered to the giant. Bakasura was humiliated by Bima's behavior. He was angry and attacked Bima. After a long fight, Bima crushes Bakasura's body. Then he dragged Bakasura's body to the gate of Ekacakra. For Bima's efforts, Ekacakra city became calm again. He and his family lived there for some time, until pandava decided to go to Kampilya, the capital of Panchala Kingdom, because he heard the story of Dropadi from a brahmin. Bima also had a son from Dropadi named Sutasoma, while the son of His marriage to Princess Balandhara of the Kashi Kingdom was Sarwaga. All bima children died in the War in Kurukshetra.

Bima in Bharatayuddha

In the war in Kurukshetra, Bima played the role of pandava army commander. He fought with a mace. On the last day of Bharatayuddha, Bima fought against Duryodana using a mace. The fight lasted fiercely and long, until Finally Krishna reminded Bima that he had vowed to break Duryodana's thigh. Bima immediately swings his mace towards Duryodana's thigh. After his thigh was crushed, Duryodana fell to the ground, and some time later he died. Baladewa was angry that he wanted to kill Bima, but was calmed down by Krishna because Bima only wanted to carry out his vows.

Nature

Bima has a valiant, firm, strong, stoic, obedient and honest nature, and considers everyone equally equal, so he is described as never using fine language (krama inggil) or play on words sitting in front of his interlocutural. Bima did both of these things (speaking in english and sitting) only when he became a regiment in the play Bima Suci, and when he met Dewaruci. He is adept at playing mace, and has a variety of weapons, including: Kuku Pancanaka, Gada Rujakpala, Alugara, Bargawa (big axe), and Bargawasta. While the types of ajian he has include: Aji Bandungbandawasa, Aji Ketuglindhu, Aji Bayubraja and Aji Blabak Pangantol-antol.

Bima also has clothes that symbolize greatness, namely: Gelung Pudaksategal, Pupuk Jarot Asem, Sumping Surengpati, Kelatbahu Candrakirana, Nagabanda belt and Cinde Udaraga Pants. While some of the gods he received were: Kampuh or Kain Poleng Bintuluaji, Gelang Candrakirana, Kalung Nagasasra, Sumping Surengpati and Pupuk Pudak Jarot Asem.

In the search for his identity, Bima was often given a task by his teacher—who was actually instigated by the Korawas to kill Bima—which seemed impossible to do, such as finding gung wood after the wind and banyu perwitasari water, which eventually led Bima to meet dewaruci.

Wives and descendants

Bima lived in the duchy of Jodipati, Indraprastha region. He had three wives and three children:

Dewi Nagagini, son of Arya Anantareja,

Dewi Arimbi, son of Raden Gatotkaca and

Goddess Urangayu, son of Arya Anantasena.

According to banyumas version, Bima had another wife, Dewi Rekatawati, with Srenggini's son.
