Nakula : Twin Brother

Nakula - Sadewa

Naluka - According to the Mahabharata, the Nakula and Sadewa twins have a special ability in caring for horses and cows. Nakula is described as a very comforting person. He is also meticulous in carrying out his duties and always keeping an eye on the ignorance of his brother, Bima, and even against jokes that feel serious. Nakula also has the skills to play swords.

When the Pandavas experienced exile in the forest, the four Pandava (Bima, Arjuna, Nakula, Sadewa) died from drinking poisoned water from a lake. When a supernatural spirit gave Yudistira the opportunity to choose one of his four brothers to be revived, it was Nakula who was chosen by Yudistira to live again. This is because Nakula is Madri's son, and Yudistira—kunti's son—wants to be fair to both mothers. If he chooses Bima or Arjuna, then no more sons of Madri will continue their descent.

When the Pandava had to go undercover in the Wirata Kingdom, Nakula posed as a horse nurse under the pseudonym Damagranti. Nakula participated in the great battle in Kurukshetra, and won the great war.

In mahaprasthanikaparwa, the seventeenth book of the Astadasaparwa Mahabharata series, nakula is told that Nakula died on the way when the Pandavas were about to reach the top of the Himalayas. Previously, Dropadi was killed and followed by Nakula's twin brother named Sadewa. When Nakula was brought to the ground, Bima asked Yudistira about the reason for Nakula's death. Yudistira replied that Nakula was very diligent and happy to carry out our orders. But Nakula is very proud of her good looks, and does not want to give up. Because of his attitude, he only lived up to it. After hearing Yudistira's explanation, Bima and Arjuna continued their journey. They left Nakula's body there, without proper burning ceremony, but Nakula's spirit reached peace.

Javanese Puppetry

Nakula in Javanese pedalangan is also called by the name of Pinten (the name of plants whose leaves can be used as medicine). He was the fourth son of Prabu Pandudewanata, king of Hastinapura country with empress Dewi Madri, daughter of Prabu Mandrapati with Dewi Tejawati, from Mandaraka country. He was born twins with his younger brother, Sahadewa or Maldives. Nakula also has three father brothers, son Prabu Pandu with Dewi Kunti, from Mandura country named Puntadewa (Yudistira), Bima false name Werkudara and Arjuna

Nakula is the titisan of Batara Aswin, the god of physicians. He is good at horseback riding and good at using arrows and javelin weapons. Nakula will not be able to forget about everything that is known because he has Aji Pranawajati given Ditya Sapujagad, Senapati Mretani state. It also has a cupu containing Banyu Panguripan or "Water of life" given by Batara Indra.

Nakula has an honest, loyal, obedient, compassionate, reciprocating character and can keep secrets. He lived in the knight's position of Sawojajar, an area of amarta state. Nakula has two wives:

Dewi Sayati was the daughter of Prabu Kridakirata, the king of Awuawulangit, and had two sons named Bambang Pramusinta and Dewi Pramuwati, respectively.

Dewi Srengganawati, daughter of Resi Badawanganala, a giant turtle living in the Wailu river (according to Purwacarita, Badawanganala is known as the king of Gisiksamodra country false name Ekapratala) and obtained a daughter named Dewi Sritanjung. From the marriage, Nakula received a gift from the heirloom cupu containing the water of life named Tirtamanik.

After the end of bharatayuddha war, Nakula was appointed king of Mandaraka country according to the mandate of Prabu Salya his mother's sister, Dewi Madrim. At the end of his narration, Nakula died in the Himalayan mountains with his four brothers.
